Last summer, rising gas prices effected the way drivers traveled and how much they traveled. Ever since this, auto insurance providers have been offering special deals and discounts on your premiums depending on how much you drive.
Insurance Per Mile programs
What many auto insurance companies have been offering for the past 12 months is a revolution in auto insurance. Insurance per mile programs allow drivers to save hundreds of dollars on their premiums simply by cutting down on how much driving they do. For example, if you were to drive under 8,000 miles per year, then you might be able to save $400 annually on your car insurance (these are not real figures and such figures should be read and fully understood before signing any contracts based on such information).
How It Works
Auto insurers can afford to do this because the less you drive, the less chances you have of getting in an accident. This frees them up from having to pay as much money if you get into an accident. If a good amount of people are doing this, then the auto insurance company is still making several hundred dollars off each person annually but will not have to pay out as much as they usually do. This makes the insurer more profit, which they will do anything to make more of.

Affordability
Teen drivers who are wanting to get out there on the road will have a problem that even creates complications for their adult counterparts: This problem being auto insurance. Auto insurance can be very expensive and especially for young people as they less frequently have jobs and if they do, there’s all kinds of laws that decide when and where they can work. Plus, teen drivers generally have school during the day, so that makes it even harder for them to earn money. For those teen drivers with summer jobs (or however they find a way to make money), they’ll be looking for the best auto insurance companies out there so they can save money. The trick is to not cut costs by cutting down on coverage plans, but instead to just find insurance companies with good payment plans. I’ve seen people pay as low as $25 a month and as high as $200 a month. For young drivers, insurance rates will be higher in general, as statistically they’re at a higher risk of accidents.

A good way to keep your auto insurance premiums down is by buying a “defensive” vehicle. A defensive vehicle would be any kind of vehicle that is resistant to impacts, malfunctions, and any other hazardous thing that auto insurance companies would be worried about.
Impacts
The biggest thing that auto insurance companies are worried about when it comes to problems is impacts. If your vehicle has features such as rear and side door airbags, anti-lock breaks, or simply made out of stronger materials, you will be less likely to receive injury from an accident and so will your car. This means that the auto insurance agency will have to pay little to no money on repairs, hospital bills, funeral costs, etc. When the auto insurance company has a smaller risk of paying out money, your premiums are much lower.
